On the 24th of June, 2021, EFMD Highered offered a webinar masterclass on 'Staying In The Drivers Seat: Leading Yourself To Go far.' Mark Fritz, leadership specialist on the power of ownership, served as the guest speaker. Mr. Mark mentors ambitious executives globally to get their people to ‘own it’. He has spoken on leadership and the power of ownership in more than 50 countries. Through the webinar, Mark talked about leading oneself to achieve their goal.

The acronym “Go Far” stands for goals, outcomes, focus, action, and recovery. On the topic of goals, Mark noted that the subconscious mind drives what we do every day. Mark advises us to think about how we can put our goals in front of us and remind ourselves to use our subconscious mind to focus on what we want to achieve. On the topic of outcomes, Mark notes that very good leaders are very focused on what they want to achieve. According to him, if we have a very clear outcome to achieve, we will find a shorter way there. Mr. Mark also noted that we shouldn’t be thinking only about what we can do to achieve our outcomes but also who could help us achieve them. Goals will help us stay focused on the big things, and outcomes keep us focused on making daily progress on achieving those goals.

The next topic was maintaining 'focus.' Working with successful people, Mr. Mark says being focused isn't about addition but subtraction. If we want to achieve our goals faster, Mr. Mark says that we should be focusing more on what's 'great' versus the 'good.' At times, we need to have the courage to drop some of the 'good' to achieve the 'great' faster. Another thing we need to do is take action. When we need to take action, we have to deal with enjoyable activities and non-enjoyable activities. Mr. Mark advises us to focus on the ‘non-enjoyable activities’ first because procrastination stops us from achieving what we want. The more focus we put on accomplishing non-enjoyable activities when they need to be done, the more productive we will be because we naturally do the things we enjoy.

Lastly, Mr. Mark talked about recovery. According to him, we will have stress and live with a certain amount of stress, especially if we are driven, but we shouldn't let stress and the small things bother us. We should also think about work-life integration, not just work-life balance.  After the end of the presentation, Mr. Mark also offered his contact information.

It was a unique and exciting webinar that helps people become more focused and productive towards their goals. If you want to watch the entire webinar, you can do so by clicking 'here. To access EFMD resources, you need to log in using the email provided to you by NSYSU.
