Research Focuses of Our Departments and Institutes-Department of Information Management
Our Research Strategy
The Department of Information Management focuses on how information technology can bring management efficiency, competitive advantage, and innovative development to enterprises. Moreover, because of the significant impact of information technology in all aspects of society and the development of big data and artificial intelligence, the department has added e-commerce, social media, big data, artificial intelligence, and business analytics to its faculty and research focus.
Specializations of Faculty
Boasting the most complete and balanced faculty structure in the country, NSYSU’s Department of Information Management has faculty whose specializations cover three major areas: 1) Information Management Systems (MIS), 2) Computer and Communication (C&C), and Business Analytics (BA). Currently, there are 17 full-time faculty members in the department, who teach courses in sync with industry development and faculty research. Their research areas include: e-business, social media, digital transformation, system design, production management and supply chain management, big data, data exploration, artificial intelligence, network security, cloud computing, deep learning, data visualization, and financial technology, among others.
The Intelligent Electronic Commerce Research Center, founded by former Ministry of Education National Chair Professor and recipient of NSYSU’s Outstanding Teacher in Academic Research Award, Professor Ting-Peng Liang, is one of the top ten e-commerce centers in the world. Professor Liang was awarded the “Leo Award” by AIS for Lifetime Achievement in 2014. The College of Management has set up the Big Data Business Analytics Platform, which is one of the few deep learning application platforms built by a business school in the world to provide faculty and students in various fields with research and industrial applications. In addition, many of our faculty members have published in the top four information systems journals (MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, and Journal of the Association for Information Systems), making it the best performing department of information management in Taiwan.
Lifetime Honorary National Chair Professor Ting-Peng Liang
Awarded the Lifetime Honorary National Chair Professor of the Ministry of Education in 2008, Professor Ting-Peng Liang enjoyed a high academic status in the field of information management domestically and internationally. In 2014, he received the Leo Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Association for Information Systems (AIS) and served as the association’s president in 2018, becoming the first person from the Chinese-speaking world to receive this honor. Professor Liang's willingness to share and build friendship with younger generations was admirable. Every year, he invited outstanding scholars in the field of information management from abroad to come to Taiwan on an exchange, giving domestic scholars an opportunity to see the best in the world. He also enjoyed cross-disciplinary exchanges and was a model by always being at the forefront of the international information management field and creating many research and learning opportunities for his students and fellow faculty members.
