2018 APAIE Singapore College of Management of NSYSU Embarked on Multinational Cooperation
The annual Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE), previously held by National Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan in 2017, took place in Singapore this April. APAIE Singapore was hosted by four universities: National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, and Singapore University of Technology and Design. 1,600 scholars from across the world participated. Representatives from universities in Europe, the United States, Japan, Australia, and China were all present. Taiwan had 27 participating universities, and was represented by the General Director of the International and Cross-Strait Department, Ministry of Education, with hopes to promote the idea of “Study in Taiwan.”
2018 APAIE was held from March 25th to 29th, and was one of the top three annual educational conferences and exhibitions worldwide along with NAFSA and EAIE. NSYSU College of Management especially assigned Associate Director of Center for International Affairs Prof. David McConville and Assistant Manager Lin Hsin-yu, to actively develop exchange plans and cooperation agreements with international institutions.
The subject of the annual exhibition this year was “The Impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on Higher Education in the Asia-Pacific.” One of the selected lecture topics “Dual Awards: Friends or Foe?” was submitted by Prof. David McConville and Chris Crabot, the Manager of International Affairs at Nottingham Trent University (NSYSU College of Management partner institution). McConville and Crabot introduced a case study regarding the dual degree program between the two institutions, and illustrated the beneficial effects of international exchange.
APAIE 2018 provided NSYSU College of Management with some positive outcomes. University of Liege in Belgium will provide a European Union Scholarship for exchange students, which contains a scholarship of up to 850 Euros per month during the exchange. Arnhem Business School, HAN University of Applied Sciences will provide two fee-waived exchange opportunities for its 2018 Summer Program. Burgundy School of Business, a partner institute of NSYSU College of Management since 2007, offered a proposal to cooperate in a dual degree program. In addition to visiting current partner universities, the purpose of the event also included building new bonds with universities from countries like Italy, Mexico, and Spain. These new bonds will provide more exchange opportunities for College of Management students in the future.
NSYSU College of Management has received three consecutive AACSB accreditations (2005, 2010, and 2015). This has not been accomplished by any other national university in Taiwan. Currently, College of Management has fifty partner universities from twenty countries across four continents, providing students with abundant resources in addition to annual exchange programs and the ACT Global Business Program. Plentiful dual degree opportunities with ESSCA and KEDGE in France, JKU in Austria, SUNY in Korea, NTU in UK, and UCR in the United States are all available in pursuit of building a global environment for the students.
