GHRM MBA was honored to welcome Rick Liu (劉文章) to the class “Strategic Human Resource Management” to deliver a speech on May 5th.

Rick Liu is the executive advisor to the Chinese Human Resource Management Association (CHRMA), and also a consultant to both the Human Resource Academy Business Group and the 104 Corporation. He was also the Vice President of the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management Associations (APFHRM) and the chairperson of the Human Resource Committee at the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei. There was no doubt that his rich experience and knowledge would provide us with many new insights into human resource management.

The topic of Mr. Liu’s speech was “HR Trends and Challenges”. In the course of his presentation Rick introduced new perspectives on human resource roles, global human resource trends, and human resource technology. Firstly, he emphasized that HR departments need a realignment in order to add more strategic value to the organization. This means expanding the focus beyond simple transactional and operational roles. Human resource professionals should recognize themselves as business leaders and business partners, not just administrators.

Mr. Liu also pointed out the importance of actively building organizational ecosystems and networks. Agility will play a central role in the organization of the future, and within every organization there should be transparent goals, free-flowing information, and dynamic feedback.

Lastly, in facing modern technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), how should human resource professionals adapt? Future HR professionals must be leaders, commercial players, financially fluent, and technically aware. Apart from useful theoretical concepts, Mr. Liu also introduced practical tools such as the Behavioral Event Interview (BEI), and also discussed the importance of company websites. Communication with the younger generation should be encouraged to attain higher quality employer branding.
