【Business Big Data】Teaching and Researching the Application of Artificial Intelligence in the Business Field

The College of Management at National Sun Yat-sen University has been actively engaged in teaching and researching the application of artificial intelligence in the business field for many years, especially the analysis of business big data, which is the key feature of its research highlights. The College of Management has an executive team to create a business big data project, as well as a number of professional consulting faculty with relevant professional backgrounds in information and case studies. In addition to understanding the platform construction and course teaching, faculty also cooperate with industry, creating practical applications for their knowledge in various fields, such as finance and tourism. Below, our faculty share the results of these practical applications in collaboration with industry.

Business Big Data includes an element of artificial intelligence called Smart Business.

Our courses combine faculty members from the management and engineering disciplines to develop technologies including facial recognition, voice recognition and synthesis, and text data processing.

In addition, we have also applied this technology to business by developing a customer identification system in cooperation with Legend Hotel (秝芯旅店). This system can identify customers as soon as they step into the lobby and pull up their past stay records to provide customized service and make customers feel well attended to.

In addition, we also collect online reviews of Legend Hotels and their competitors. By analyzing these online messages, we can identify the strengths and weaknesses of these hotels, and understand whether the hotels have achieved the brand image they are trying to convey.

Prof.Wang

In terms of industry-academia cooperation, National Sun Yat-sen University has also collaborated with the Institute for Information Industry to establish a “Digital Sandbox” campus experimentation base, currently the only one in southern Taiwan. A “Digital Sandbox” is a collective creative platform for Open API in financial technology. Creating a campus base mechanism brings previous experience to colleges and universities, hoping to make good use of the energy of campus research and development and young people’s interest in digital financial services to amplify the development and application of APIs, in order to cultivate financial big data strategic analysis evidence talents. We hope to cultivate talents in the field of financial big data strategy analysis and experimentation.

National Sun Yat-sen University has partnered with O-Bank and Taishin Bank to offer financial micro-credit classes. By using actual data from the banks, we build practical models for AI personnel prediction, and both banks provide rare internship opportunities for students with outstanding performance in the program.

Prof.Kang

National Sun Yat-sen University’s College of Management is the first business school in Taiwan to build a big data analytics platform. It is indispensable to have a computer room that can support a large amount of computing equipment to handle large amounts of data in order to help us build a lightweight virtualized cloud computing environment.

In addition, through effective allocation and monitoring of the computing resources on the big data platform, we can provide continuous and uninterrupted computing and analysis services to students and faculty.

Prof.Cho

In the process of advising businesses, we have found that “data scientists” with engineering backgrounds cannot effectively lead the transformation in the company; it is professional managers with business data analysis ability who are the real key to the digitalization of companies. Due to the huge demand for this core human resource in the job market, business schools abroad have been offering business data analysis courses.

Domestically, on the other hand, under the current establishment of university departments, most of the data analysis courses offered by business schools are still mainly focused on writing programs and making models. However, the models themselves should not be the main focus of business analysis, but rather the ability to use predictive models at the level of business management to match business situations.

Hypothetical simulation and optimization based on business logic, and interactive communication and decision-making through data visualization are our true core capabilities of digital transformation.

These core competencies are the most important emphasis and features of NSYSU College of Management when promoting business big data analytics.
