【Career】Hult Prize at NSYSU - Online Lecture "Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Mutual Benefit"

College of Management at the National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) aspires to be the model of business management education in Asia. The school is committed to the education of ethics, social responsibility, sustainability, and cultivating relevant talents. Since 2018, NSYSU has published its annual report on corporate social responsibility (CSR) for four consecutive years. The Office of Sustainability and Social Responsibility (ORSA) was also established with the aim of supporting NSYSU’s vision. In order to implement the social responsibility of the school, the Career Development Office under the College of Management assisted the students from the College of Management and the Hult Prize Club to organize a virtual sharing on  "Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Mutual Benefit" on the 17th of September 2022.

The virtual sharing was conducted through Microsoft Team, with a total of 30 participants. We were honored to have our guest speaker Mr.Wang Jianhao, the operator of  Weikejia Co., Ltd. (我們他們、一起野餐 cafe), share with the students on what social innovation is, and his entrepreneurial experience.

During Mr. Wang’s sharing, when he talked about social innovation and entrepreneurship, he advised the students to examine the ideas and processes behind it, and to have more discussion on "Why do so?" rather than thinking about results. Meanwhile, Mr. Wang Jianhao also listed many practical social cases, such as: "不塑之客" who advocates personal actions of no plastic and zero waste and “挺挺動物鬆鬆聊” who cares about animal protection, in order to let everyone has more understanding toward the picture. Mr. Wang Jianhao suggested that students who are interested in social innovation and entrepreneurship should make more use of the "Public Policy Internet Participation Platform" https://join.gov.tw/, which allows the people to participate in public policies and strengthens citizen supervision. Students should also pay attention to current affairs in a way of improving and possessing good social literacy to facilitate the development of social innovation and entrepreneurship.

In the Q&A session at the end of the speech, participants asked their questions focusing on: "Why do you want to start a business?" "Why do you want to open a coffee shop?" "Will it be difficult to make money running a social enterprise? Have you ever faced financial loss?" Mr. Wang Jianhao answered the questions patiently and gave out his sincere answer. Mr. Wang Jianhao emphasized on the last question: Although social enterprises show more focus on conveying social concepts than other firms, however, as an operator, it is still necessary to formulate a complete business plan and to target customer groups, ensuring the continued operation of the company.
