[ACT] Opening Ceremony of the ACT Global Program: A Celebration of Multicultural and Academic Exchange at NSYSU

What is it like to experience nine months of learning across multiple countries? The long-awaited opening ceremony for the Taiwan module of the ACT Global Program took place on November 18, 2024, at National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU). After completing a three-month learning module at the University of Victoria in Canada, students from around the world gathered in Taiwan, representing nations such as Canada, Austria, Taiwan, Ukraine, Brazil, Germany, China, Mexico, Guatemala, Ghana, and India. The event was a vibrant showcase of multiculturalism and academic collaboration.
The ceremony’s distinguished guest, Edit Juhász, program manager from Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz in Austria, extended her heartfelt congratulations to the students. Remarkably, Edit is also an alumna of ACT Program, and returning to NSYSU after many years, she shared her excitement at being part of the event in a new role. She encouraged the students to seize this unique opportunity for learning and exchange, urging them to embrace challenges with confidence and enthusiasm, setting an inspiring tone for the journey ahead.
Director of the Office of International Relations and Accreditation, Professor Ying-Chun Li, welcomed the students with humor and warmth. He encouraged them to explore Taiwan’s stunning landscapes, diverse culinary culture, and unique local traditions. He emphasized that this program offers a rare chance to balance academic rigor with cultural immersion, fostering essential cross-cultural communication and collaboration skills, and leaving participants enriched with knowledge and lifelong friendships.
The International Relations team provided a comprehensive overview of the Taiwan module’s key components. They detailed the utilization of campus resources, including libraries and fitness facilities, to ensure a convenient and enjoyable campus life. Additionally, plans for corporate visits were outlined, offering students firsthand insights into Taiwanese business operations. Practical advice on navigating public transportation and must-see attractions further equipped students to adapt quickly to their new environment. The session also included interactive games, where students shared their aspirations for exploring Taiwan’s cuisine, cities, and landmarks, fostering camaraderie in a relaxed and joyful setting.
This opening ceremony marked the start of an academic journey filled with challenges, exploration, and personal growth. Students will combine classroom learning, corporate visits, and cross-cultural collaboration to expand their global perspectives and build invaluable international networks. The program offers a transformative opportunity to cultivate global mindsets and enhance their competitiveness on the world stage.
