[ACT] A Global Journey Starts Here: NSYSU Welcomes New ACT Cohort
Last Friday, NSYSU proudly welcomed 27 bright and energetic students to begin the Taiwan Module of the 2025–2026 ACT Program. Although it was their first week in Kaohsiung, the atmosphere felt warm and familiar because this cohort had already spent three months together at the University of Victoria (UVic) in Canada. Their journey continues in Taiwan for another three months before heading to Austria’s Johannes Kepler University (JKU) for the final module.
To help students settle in, host Ms. Shania Yap(PhD student, Department of Information Management) and mentor Ms. Christine Doan(PhD student, Department of Business Administration) welcomed the group with friendly energy and heartfelt support, creating a lively and comfortable atmosphere throughout the morning.
Dean Prof. Hao-Chieh Lin opened the ceremony with a fun Taiwan-and-NSYSU quiz, bringing laughter into the room. Following that, Prof. Timo Eccarius, Director of the Office of International Relations and Accreditations, shared insights about the ACT’s unique tri-country learning experience. He highlighted that teams are reorganized at each module to encourage intercultural collaboration, helping students continually develop adaptability and global teamwork skills.
During the program introduction session, the Taiwan Module team presented an overview of course arrangements, essential living information, and cultural highlights. This was followed by an engaging team activity, “Last Answer Standing,” where students connected quickly through discussion, friendly competition, and shared laughter and also allowed them to begin building initial team chemistry on their very first day at NSYSU.
After the opening event, teaching mentors guided students on a campus tour covering key academic and daily-life facilities. The tour included future classrooms, printing services, convenience and dining spots, and other essential locations. This helped students gain confidence navigating the campus and prepare for the upcoming three months of study.
Following the campus tour, three ACT alumni who share both the ACT tri-country experience and the JKU double-degree background returned to NSYSU to meet with the students. Quirin Eberl, who holds a double degree from JKU and IBMBA, shared his intercultural learning experiences and professional journey, encouraging students to make full use of the diverse strengths offered across the three modules and to develop cross-disciplinary abilities.
Ysanne Chen (IBMBA) and Eagle Hsu (MBA), who also completed the ACT tri-country program and the JKU double-degree track, joined the session as well. They offered insights based on their academic and career paths, providing students with valuable guidance and perspectives from alumni with diverse experiences.
Running from November 21, 2025 to January 30, 2026, the Taiwan Module features six courses, field trips, cultural immersion activities, and collaborative team experiences. With a warm welcome from the entire NSYSU program team, students are set to embark on a meaningful and enriching learning journey over the next two months.
