On November 25, 2025, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) – International Employment Hub, in collaboration with the 16th Student Association of IBMBA/GHRM MBA, hosted a panel discussion titled “Building Your Career in Taiwan: International Alumni Insights.” The event brought together alumni, distinguished guests, and current MBA students for an engaging afternoon of career dialogue. Held at 73 Café, the gathering featured a lively and multicultural atmosphere that reflected NSYSU’s ongoing commitment to cultivating global talent for Taiwan’s business and technology sectors.
The event opened with remarks from Dr. Ming-Hsuan Lee , Director of the Office of International Affairs, who reaffirmed NSYSU’s dedication to supporting international students in their career development. She noted that the International Employment Hub continues to strengthen its resources and industry connections, enabling foreign students to build meaningful pathways into the Taiwanese job market.
The program was smoothly facilitated by Jan Filipp , Vice President of the 16th Student Association, who served as both MC and panel moderator. Working alongside him was Morgan Yan , President of the 16th SA, who supported event organization and documentation. Joyce Ting , Administrative Officer at the OIA, played a central role in coordinating logistics, staffing, and overall execution, ensuring the event ran seamlessly. Additionally, Professor Jeng Yih provided key support by engaging alumni, advising on event content, and connecting industry partners with the university.
The panel featured three distinguished alumni who shared diverse perspectives on building careers in Taiwan.
Mr. Trent Prestegar, Product Marketing Manager at SuperMicro and a 2011 NSYSU MBA alumnus, recounted his journey of establishing a successful career in Taiwan, including mastering Mandarin and advancing through roles in marketing and copywriting. Despite returning from an overseas business trip shortly before the event, he made a special effort to join and encourage students.
Trent was joined by Mr. Steve Chen, Senior Recruiter at SuperMicro, who provided practical advice on entering recruitment and business-related roles. He highlighted the importance of soft skills, professional certifications, and a proactive learning mindset. His insights into SuperMicro’s global talent acquisition strategies were particularly valuable to international students seeking clarity on corporate hiring practices in Taiwan.
The third speaker, Mrs. Hkawn San (Joy)—a 2021 GHRM MBA alumna and currently a Global Product and Content Marketing at ASUS—offered an inspiring account of adapting to Taiwanese corporate culture and developing resilience as a foreign professional. Her reflections on navigating marketing roles in a competitive tech environment resonated strongly with many aspiring marketers in the audience.
In addition to alumni speakers, the event was attended by several distinguished guests. Professor Jeng brought students from his course “Business Model Development and Practice of Social Enterprises,” many of whom contributed to the international diversity of the event. He also invited Mr. Guo Jong Chou , CEO of Taroko Door & Window Technologies Inc., and his colleague Peter, who delivered an engaging introduction to the company’s products and global aspirations. Their presence drew strong interest from students, several of whom inquired about career opportunities following the session.
The panel concluded with an informal networking session featuring 73 Café’s signature refreshments. Students enthusiastically lined up to speak with the alumni and guests, seeking advice, mentorship, and professional insights. The speakers remained until the final moments before departing for the High-Speed Rail, underscoring the meaningful engagement sparked by the discussions.
The event, jointly organized by the OIA International Employment Hub, the 16th Student Association of IBMBA/GHRM MBA, and Professor Jeng, with support from Director Ming-Hsuan Lee and Administrative Officer Joyce Ting, highlighted NSYSU’s commitment to aligning international student development with Taiwan’s evolving industry needs. Through authentic dialogue, practical guidance, and strengthened alumni connections, the panel deepened the bridge between global talent and Taiwan’s business environment—leaving students inspired and motivated to pursue their career goals.
