【English Corner】Morgan Shares Presentation and Storytelling Skills: Building Confidence and Communication Impact Through International Competition Experience
The International Relations and Accreditation Office of the College of Management held an English Corner session on May 6, 2026, and invited student YEN, LING-YU (Morgan) as the guest speaker. Morgan previously participated in the SG-FECC (Global Family Enterprise Case Competition) and received the Best Presenter Award. During the lecture, he not only shared his experience of standing out in an international competition, but also guided students through English presentation and storytelling techniques through real examples and interactive activities. He encouraged participants to build confidence, develop personal style, and enhance the impact of their communication skills.
【Presentation Preparation Through International Competition Experience】
At the beginning of the lecture, Morgan shared his experience participating in SG-FECC. He explained that his team spent over ten hours each week preparing case studies and presentation practices, which strengthened his analytical, presentation, and teamwork skills, ultimately helping him earn the Best Presenter Award. He also noted that interacting with participants from different countries was a valuable opportunity to broaden his horizons and build connections.
【“A Presentation Is a Performance”: Building Personal Style and Stage Presence】
When discussing how to become an outstanding speaker, Morgan emphasized the idea that “It’s a Performance, not a presentation.” He believed that a successful presentation requires not only professional content, but also the ability to capture the audience’s attention. Compared with many competitors who preferred stable and formal presentation styles, Morgan chose to present with greater passion, rhythm, and memorability in order to keep audiences fully engaged. He also highlighted the importance of body language, vocal variation, and eye contact, encouraging students to develop their own presentation style and storytelling power.
【From Storytelling to Vocal Delivery Training】
In addition to sharing competition experiences, Morgan introduced practical storytelling techniques to the audience. He pointed out that effective storytelling does not necessarily begin with English itself, but with learning how to make speech engaging and appealing. During the lecture, Morgan shared several ways he had learned storytelling by observing “how” speakers communicate, rather than simply “what” they say:
✅ Sitcoms, such as Friends
✅ Stand-up comedy performances
✅ Professional speeches, such as those by Simon Sinek
Through video examples and demonstrations, Morgan showed how stress, pacing, intonation, and volume can change the impact of a sentence. He also shared tips for overcoming nervousness and encouraged students to build confidence through continuous practice.
【Conclusion: Building Confidence and Communication Through Storytelling】
This session not only provided students with practical insights into international presentation competitions, but also inspired them to rethink the importance of communication and self-expression through storytelling and vocal delivery training. Through Morgan’s engaging sharing and interactive activities, students gained a deeper understanding that English presentations are not merely about language proficiency, but also about connecting with audiences, conveying stories, and expressing personal style. It is hoped that students will apply these skills in classrooms, competitions, and future international exchanges.
