[Department of Business Administration ] How to demonstrate leadership? Founder of Taiwan International Friendly Association, George Carter, shares traits of successful leaders.

In the workplace, opportunities for teamwork and cross-disciplinary communication are indispensable, while leadership and coordination abilities are crucial for career development.
In this semester's "Technology Management and Special Topics Seminar" course, Prof. Yi Lu collaborated with DEI Management Consultants to bring a series of expert lectures from various industries. The aim was to cultivate students' cross-cultural communication skills and spirit of teamwork. This time, the course invited George Carter, founder of the Taiwan International Friendly Association and an alum of Sun Yat-sen University, to share his wealth of leadership experience.
George began by discussing the three major criteria for evaluating job applicants from a human resources management perspective: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. He particularly emphasized the importance of being prepared with a 30-second self-introduction at any time, reminding students to seize every opportunity for self-promotion.
During the lecture, George also delved into the importance of "Reflection," explaining that without ongoing reflection, we may blindly pursue goals and fail to achieve success. He encouraged students to continuously reflect deeply on aspects such as learning, career planning, personal life goals, and contributions to society.
Furthermore, despite societal encouragement for "work-life balance," George suggested that young people should absorb knowledge like a sponge and pursue learning and progress continuously. He pointed out that at this stage, balanced time management and resource allocation are what truly constitute "balance," rather than a simple 50:50 split.
Through role-playing exercises, George demonstrated how effective feedback can be used to achieve leadership goals. He shared his experiences as a military officer leading teams, including how to guide team members who make mistakes to engage in self-reflection, thereby surpassing themselves.
Following this insightful seminar, students gained a deeper understanding and preparation for knowledge, skills, and abilities required in time management, leadership qualities, and future workplaces.
