NSYSU students utilize their specialized skills to teach and interact with students, creating a joyful and engaging learning environment.

The College of Management at National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) has partnered with the Chinese Heritage Knowledge Institute to offer a one-on-one tutoring program as part of its service-learning curriculum. This initiative provides free tutoring for underprivileged and academically challenged students in the Kaohsiung area, helping them improve their grades and rebuild their confidence.

This semester, NSYSU students eagerly signed up as tutors. The course filled up quickly, with many previous participants returning to volunteer. Graduates have also continued to support the tutoring efforts, reflecting their enthusiasm for the program.

Assistant Professor Sang-Ju Yu noted that the service-learning course not only supplies a stable teaching workforce for the Kaohsiung branch but also fosters compassion for disadvantaged children. Students engage with the children weekly, addressing their needs, reviewing weak subjects, and conducting regular assessments to track progress. Through this personalized tutoring, students become vital mentors, enhancing their empathy, communication, and social skills.

Before the semester began, Director Jin-Shan Huang shared insights with the tutors, emphasizing that the true essence of education lies in transforming lives. He expressed hope that both students and tutors would find harmony in their collaboration, sparking creativity and innovation.

On the first day of tutoring, the atmosphere was filled with joy and enthusiasm for learning. A junior high student expressed appreciation for the supportive environment, stating, "I love this atmosphere because everyone is working hard to learn." The university tutors were excited to apply their expertise to enhance the students' reading and academic comprehension. One tutor mentioned, "I was worried about how to help the students, but seeing their dedication reassured me that I can make a difference."

The ongoing efforts of the Kaohsiung branch are a testament to their commitment to supporting underprivileged children. By promoting diverse learning opportunities and improving academic performance, the program offers NSYSU students an alternative educational experience that combines social action and responsibility. The hope is to engage more individuals in this initiative, creating a positive cycle of support that empowers these children and fulfills the vision of "Education Changes Destiny."
