Words from Our Alumni

Shang-Chih Hsu, BA Class of 2000

In the summer of 1996, as an 18-year-old filling in my options after the college entrance examination, I put National Sun Yat-sen University's Department of Business Management as my first choice. The professor of my first Introduction to Business class told us, “I teach classes for CEOs.” In fact, I have been a general manager for a while now, but it was not until two years ago, 19 years after I graduated, that I dared to put “CEO” on my business card. In 2021, on behalf of my company, I received the National Award for Outstanding Overseas Taiwanese SMEs from President Tsai herself. This is the highest honor for small and medium-sized enterprises given to overseas Taiwanese businesses.

After graduating and finishing my military service, I joined the family company. At that time, it was still small and could not afford professional managers. I relied on the knowledge taught by NSYSU's Department of Business Management to structure the process and organize a team in a step-by-step manner. After years of building a small business empire, I was able to make a name for myself in my industry and was recognized with the National Award for Outstanding Overseas Taiwanese SMEs. I love the beach, the sea breeze and the sunset in Sizihwan.

I miss the days of my youth. I loved talking under the linden trees, and I loved hearing the sound of the waves from the dormitory at midnight when it was quiet. Those are some of my insights and observations – choose NSYSU's Department of Business Management, and achieve a different you!
