Department of Information Management Bachelor's Program

Special Features of the Program

NSYSU’s Department of Information Management is one of the most advanced information management departments in the country, ranking among the best in many indicators, such as research projects and academic publications. The program features a year of specialization, systems development, and numerous exchange opportunities abroad. A variety of work-study opportunities are available on and off campus. Students are encouraged to apply for the five-year master's degree program to complete a bachelor’s and MBA degree in five years.

Graduation Requirements

Total Program Credits: 135 Credits

The minimum number of credits required for graduation is 135. The curriculum is designed to include not only the university's general education courses, but also four major categories of required courses: (1) basic management, (2) information management, (3) computers and communication, and (4) decision sciences. In addition, students are required to take two out of the nine general management courses in order to provide them with a comprehensive education in information management and to avoid students taking only management courses or only information technology courses. In addition, in order to provide students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in the system implementation, to train students’ teamwork skills, and to integrate what they have learned, all students are required to develop a year-long project from the second semester of their junior year in order to achieve the goal of integrating both theory and practice.

In addition to classwork, the department also encourages students to form teams to participate in competitions and gives a lot of assistance to students in the departmental club and internet research club, allowing students to focus on organizing activities such as orientation and allowing students who want to focus on extracurricular activities to have the opportunity. During my four years at the Institute of Information Management, I have met a lot of great people and have done many interesting things. With the training and assistance from the Institute, I have accumulated a lot of experience. I can't go into everything here because space limits, but if you’re interested, you can check out my LinkedIn page, and if you have questions, you can contact me through LinkedIn or Facebook. Ming-Lun Wu, BA Class of 2018

I am currently working in the field of data analysis, solving life’s problems through information technology and using my soft power to make an impact. On the “technical” side, the courses in the Institute of Information Management laid the foundation for my programming related skills. In addition to the classes, the Institute also gives students a high degree of freedom to choose the professional knowledge they want to study according to their own planning, and then assemble a unique skill map for each of them.

In addition to technical skills, many of the courses required a project report to be presented on stage, which provided solid training in collaborative communication and presentation skills, allowing me to work as a team and effectively present my analytical results in the workplace. Participating in the five-year master's program has enabled me to use my time more pragmatically and to start participating in graduate school courses in my senior year. I was able to strengthen my professional skills and enter the workplace earlier than my peers, which allowed me to accumulate workplace experience faster.
